Réalise · iOS App
Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 May 2025
Overview
Réalise (“the app”, “we”, “our”) is a personal mortality-awareness app that helps you reflect on how much time you have left to live. Your privacy is taken seriously. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
The short version: we do not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data. Almost everything stays on your device.
Information We Collect
Information you provide
During onboarding you enter:
- Date of birth — used to calculate elapsed life percentage and remaining time.
- Country of residence — used to look up your country-specific life expectancy from the World Bank API.
- Biological sex — used alongside country data to retrieve sex-disaggregated life expectancy figures.
This information is stored locally on your device using SwiftData and is never uploaded to any server we operate.
Data fetched from third-party APIs
To retrieve life expectancy statistics, the app makes a read-only request to the World Bank Open Data API (data.worldbank.org). The request contains your country code and sex indicator only — no personally identifiable information is transmitted. The World Bank's own privacy policy governs that interaction.
Diagnostic data (Apple)
If you have opted in to sharing analytics with developers via iOS Settings → Privacy → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share anonymised crash reports and usage data with us through App Store Connect. We use this solely to fix bugs and improve stability. We have no way to link this data to you personally.
How We Use Your Information
Your on-device data is used exclusively to:
- Calculate and display your remaining lifespan.
- Compute your “free time” estimate in Rat Race mode (after accounting for sleep and work hours).
- Schedule local push notifications (Memento Mori reminders) at the frequency you choose.
- Render the life grid and stoic quotes within the app.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the core features described above.
Data Storage & Security
All profile data (date of birth, country, sex) is persisted locally using SwiftData on your device. It is subject to the same encryption and access controls that iOS applies to all app data. We have no backend database and no access to your stored information.
Notifications are scheduled using Apple's UserNotifications framework entirely on-device. No notification content leaves your device.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party. The only external network call the app makes is the read-only World Bank API request described above.
Data Retention & Deletion
Your data exists only on your device for as long as the app is installed. To delete it completely:
- Delete the Réalise app from your device.
iOS will remove all associated app data, including your SwiftData store, upon deletion. There is no cloud backup to delete.
Children's Privacy
Réalise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can assist.
Your Rights
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control at all times. You can view, edit, or delete your profile at any point from the Profile screen within the app, or by deleting the app entirely.
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, and you have concerns about how your data is handled, please reach out to us at the contact below.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where material, notify you via an in-app notice on the next launch. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
